My current backups already run, why should I switch?
The difference is not in running the backup. It’s in proving it. Most plans we inherit have never had a documented restore drill — the first one is always during a real incident. We run the drill monthly on isolated environment, with written report, real RTO/RPO not just contractual.
What changes with NIS2?
NIS2 (Italian Legislative Decree 138/2024) imposes documented and tested business continuity measures on essential and important entities, including relevant digital publishers, e-commerce above threshold, public administration. Having existing backups is not enough: you must prove they work. The monthly restore drill report we produce is the proof.
Where do offsite copies end up?
A second European location separate from the primary. Never outside the EU. Client-side encryption before transfer, keys managed contractually with the customer, retention by category — not one plan for everything.
Does this work even if my stack is not already yours?
Yes. Backup & DR is a capability we can run on infrastructure we did not deploy: Proxmox from others, physical servers, cloud VMs. The package includes an initial audit to understand what you already have and what needs integration.
